Shukkyo

The sprouting of the willow leaves that day was deeply moving.

My wife, youngest son, and I were watching the willows budding at Shitennoji Temple in Osaka.

I came to Osaka when my youngest son left his hometown.

The city of Osaka that day looked different from the city I had seen before. The buildings were taller than usual and had straight edges that seemed to keep people out, and the curves of the highway felt like a knife being pointed at me. A concrete building is nothing more than a material object called concrete, and it did not seem as if there was any human activity taking place inside the building.

A leaf that has just sprouted. I wonder what kind of activities are going on in this town. Wouldn’t it get crushed and shattered? Will it not wilt? My anxiety grows.

Beyond the budding willows, a sky blue sky spread out with the softness of spring. I thought that the sky with the lemon color lurking within the white was appropriate.
