In recent years, the Kofu Basin has been the topic of conversation in the summer due to heat waves exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The evening news reports that this is the highest temperature in the Japanese archipelago. It seems to be one of the hottest places in the country in summer. This is true of my house, which lives in the south of the basin. We endure with electric fans, but it feels like we’re training for the heat.

Two years ago, my son and his wife came to visit us with their baby. Unfortunately, the day they returned home was close to 40 degrees Celsius. When night came, the baby looked lethargic, which worried me. It may have been the early symptoms of heat stroke. I hurriedly asked an electronics store the next day to install an air conditioner, but they said they didn’t have one at this time of year.

They told me they were coming home again this summer, so I thought it would be a shame if they learned their lesson and said they wouldn’t come to our house in Yamanashi, so I spent a lot of money to install an air conditioner. After I installed it, they couldn’t come due to their schedule. In the end, it was a great help to my husband and I, who are classified as elderly.

Two winters ago, when I woke up in the morning, there was a wall of snow in front of me. A heavy snowfall of 1m40cm had fallen. It was difficult to use a shovel to clear the snow to the road. This was the first heavy snow I had experienced in my 70 years of life. For several days, Yamanashi became an isolated island. It was a winter where I learned firsthand the hardships of living in an area with heavy snowfall.

Abnormal weather conditions continued across Japan this year, and there were many disasters. There are too many examples to mention. Every time it happens, articles write about it as a disaster that only happens once every 50 years or once every 100 years. The effects of abnormal weather have been reported in various parts of the world. Icebergs in the North Pole are collapsing. Permafrost in Siberia is melting. Glaciers are shrinking. Some parts of the southern islands are submerged. Many of these abnormal weather phenomena are caused by global warming. Moreover, it has become common knowledge around the world that the global warming phenomenon of recent decades is caused by humans.

Since ancient times, people have worked hard to stretch themselves. I have worked hard to create a rich life. However, humans, in their arrogance and arrogance, have imposed on the earth an act that goes beyond their limits. The Tower of Babel was built with the hope of reaching heaven, but in order to punish the people for their arrogance and pride, they made it impossible for people to communicate with each other, and the tower was left unfinished. Aren’t the actions of us modern people punished by God? No, before that, Earth has filed an objection.
